Since May, there has been much talk about Google developing its own tablet as a showcase to demonstrate the latest and best innovations that its Android platform is capable of.

Now from Australia, we have what is alleged to be the leaked details of the much talked about device that is said to have come from training materials for the device.

The Nexus Tablet (not its official name) looks to be a 7-inch device that’s apparently built by ASUS. The device is expected to make its global debut at the Google I/O developer conference scheduled to happen this week and here are the unconfirmed specifications:

  • 7-inch 1280×800 IPS Display with a 178-degree viewing angle
  • Android Jelly Bean
  • 1.3GHz Quad-Core Tegra 3 CPU
  • NVidia GeForce 12-core GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB / 16GB Internal Storage
  • 1.2MP Front Camera
  • 9 Hours Battery Life
  • Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
  • Android Beam NFC
  • Google Wallet support

The Nexus Tablet is expected to cost US$199 for the 8GB version and US$249 for the 16GB version. The hardware isn’t groundbreaking which means that the next iteration of the Android OS, right now only known as Jelly Bean, will have to be awesome to make up for what the hardware lacks.

Of course all of this is unconfirmed so don’t get too excited just yet. Google I/O is happening on June 27-29 in San Francisco, USA. Stay tuned as we bring you the developments on the Nexus Tablet and Android Jelly Bean in the days to come.

Take a look at this video that compares the recent Microsoft Surface announcement lead by Steve Ballmer with the first iPad keynote made by the late Steve Jobs way back in 2010.

Is an interesting read from Jaime Rivera of Pocketnow.com. But first, we have to make it clear that didn’t write the post below and neither are we claiming any ownership of the post published by the good people at Pocketnow.com.

We’re posting Rivera’s work here because 1) we agree with all of the things mentioned in his article and 2) we’re posting his work here so you can offer your thoughts and give some local perspective on this very interesting discussion.

Let’s start this list with a disclaimer though. There’s nothing in these five disappointments that considers iOS either superior or inferior to other platforms. There’s no such thing as a perfect operating system, and the idea that one is better than the other is anything but objective. This is about iOS 6, and why we believe it could’ve done better

1. As of this year, it’s no longer ahead of its time
Back when Steve Jobs released the original iPhone in 2007, he said that the operating system was “at least five years ahead of its time”. If any of you were using the Motorola Q9h or BlackBerry Pearl that I was using back then, you’d agree with me in the fact that the guy was right. Sadly it seems that nobody at Apple remembers that any more. Those five years are up, and sadly nothing that was released at WWDC has prepared iOS to leap ahead of its time again. Today, a natural user interface is no longer a feature. It became mainstream years ago. Even feature phones have flick scrolling, Opera Mini for improved web browsing, and yeah, they’ve been doing music for a while now.

iOS 6 should’ve been about where the puck is going to be next. Siri, while superior in many ways to whatever other platforms currently do, is still half-baked. iPhone OS 1 made the phrase “ease-of-use” change in meaning half a decade ago, but today, the concept is no longer a selling point. So my question is, what’s next Apple? Your reluctance to change a legacy UI makes you, not look like you.

2. Most of what it’ll do, it won’t do any better than others
When they’re timely, Apple is famous for launching products that define new standards. When they’re late, they usually leapfrog over competition with something dramatically better. iOS 6 is sadly nothing like that. Prettier maps are not necessarily the same as better maps. It doesn’t challenge the system to be any better than it already is. It’s just a late catch-up that’s great to have, but that won’t give you a reason to choose iOS over a competing platform.

Facebook integration? Been there, done that with Windows Phone 7 or HTC Sense. FaceTime over cellular? Third party apps have been offering video calls over cellular long before the iPhone’s own manufacturer figured it out. These reasons are no longer big enough to stir any customer away from the competition.

3. It still looks the same
Surely the wheel can evolve, but overall, it’s still just a wheel. With operating systems, that’s a different story. Can you imagine Microsoft launching a Windows Vista that still looked like Windows XP? The age difference between them is just five years, and still the user interface evolved for better or worse. The age difference between iPhone OS 1 and iOS 6 is exactly that, five years. Functionality has changed here and there, but eating chicken every day for the last half-a-decade must drive even some Apple employees crazy by now.

Even though I carry an iPhone 4S as one of my two daily drivers, I’ll admit that I’ve spent more time using HTC Sense on the One X that arrived on my doorstep a week ago, than this beta of iOS 6. I know this remark isn’t fair to all of you, since I know that for some people, what’s not broken shouldn’t be fixed, but my honest impression of iOS 6 is that I’m bored.

I do understand Apple’s purpose in keeping the grid of icons all over, but why not figure out some way to have UI profiles. If you’re a first-time user, you get the grid, and if you’re a power user, you can customize it differently. Hey, if Cydia could figure that out, I’m sure all those thousands of Apple Engineers can do better.

4. It brings more fragmentation
I’ve got to hand it to Apple here. Users of legacy devices probably don’t get everything in future updates due to hardware limitations, but they at least get some of them. The problem is when this fragmentation is not justified by hardware limitations. For example, as of beta 1, Siri is not supported by the iPad 2, whose guts are almost identical to what we find powering the iPhone 4S. And if the iPhone 4 and 3GS are getting iOS 6, why isn’t the first-generation iPad getting it? None of these technical decisions make logical sense, unless you add dollars into the equation.

We have seen Apple change their minds as betas keep coming to developers, so let’s hope this is just another phase where they’ll lighten-up sooner or later.

5. We’re stuck with it for at least another 18 months
Using a device that’s no longer ahead of its time, boring or no better than competitors isn’t easy in our times, but knowing that it won’t change for another 18 months is torture. Even if Apple released a new iPhone in the fall, which runs iOS 6 with some minor enhancements, nobody can switch phones every couple of months in this economy. Apple has slowly pushed users into adopting newer hardware just to get this new feature or that one, and it’s really not a good way to drive additional loyalty towards the platform.

The bottom line This is not like if I don’t recommend iOS 6. Again, there are a ton of reasons why the iPhone 4S is still in my pocket running the beta. My biggest concern lies in its future. Apple seems to have fallen into a comfort zone that’s dangerous in this day and age. Competitors are no longer struggling to catch-up; those tables turned last year. For the first time since I started in this ecosystem back with the iPhone 3GS, I feel like it’s time to move-on. It’s in Apple’s best interest that people that agree with me, have real reasons to stick around.

This is not a new app but it’s something that we’ve just recently discovered and one that we thought is useful, awesome and amazing enough for us share it with you.

AirDroid is a simple to setup and easy to use application that allows you to manage your Android device wirelessly from the web browser on your computer. The app is a really great way to access stuff on your Android device. You can manage files and documents on your device’s micro SD card, you can drag and drop files to and from the device, and even access your contacts, call logs, emails, and a whole host of other things too. You can also text using the app as well as download and install apps on your device all wirelessly from the web browser of your choice on your computer.

The interface is pleasant and you don’t need to root your device to access most of the cool features of AirDroid. You don’t even have to install anything on your PC either. Just key in passcode or scan a QR code and you’re done.

Foxconn makes iPhones, a lot of iPhones, along with other Apple products like the iPad and iPod touch, and gadgets from other big tech companies too like Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation. And if someone of a considerable deal of influence — say, like the Chairman of Foxconn — talks about an anticipated product that has not been released yet, you can bet that there’s some degree of credibility in what that person says.

In this case, Foxconn’s Chairman Terry Gou told China Times at a recent annual shareholder’s meeting straight up that consumers should “wait for the launch of the iPhone 5″ because “the new model will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame”.

Those are mighty words coming from a man that would probably know more about the iPhone 5 than anyone else outside of Cupertino and it makes you wonder if Apple does see Samsung and the Galaxy S III as a real threat. It also makes you that little bit more curious as to what goodies the new iPhone will bring when it is unveiled possibly this October.

As for now, all we know about the iPhone 5 are rumours including a longer and thinner all-aluminium body housing a 4-inch screen that is expected to have a high enough screen resolution for Apple to tag the Retina Display name on it.

Here’s a nice little late-night rumor for you to dream about while you slumber. There’s been some talk that HTC is readying a 5.3-inch Galaxy Note challenger of their own by the name of the One XXL (double x’s for a double dose of pimpin’). Other than its gargantuan size, we really haven’t heard much else.

Well, a new leak is flipping everything we once thought, showing us that the HTC One XXL might not be 5.3-inch device we hoped for. Instead, it could be a souped up version of the HTC One XL (our version of the international Tegra 3 One X). The details were “revealed” in the below screenshot (top image is just concept art) and shows off all the specs that make a Phandroid’s heart flutter. We got a 4.7-inch display, quad-core Qualcomm S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8MP camera and 1.8MP front facing camera.

Of course, this sorta stuff is pretty easy to fake with a little time on your hands, and a few simple XML edits. Still, I can’t help but think if this device were true, and it comes to Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile later this year, maybe that would take some of the sting out of missing out on the regular old One X.

Motorola Mobility today announced the latest addition to the RAZR line-up for South East Asia. Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor packed in a decently thin 8.35mm body, the Motorola RAZR V is designed to combine value, performance and style in one.

The RAZR V features a 4.3-inch Gorilla Glass display that is enhanced with Motorola’s ColorBoost display technology. In addition, the RAZR V runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and features a backplate that is completely covered with Kevlar.

Other than that, we don’t have much detail on the full specifications of the device. We’ll have to wait till closer to the launch date for more info. In terms of pricing, the RAZR V will be the most affordable Android-based RAZR in the market, so it should be cheaper than the RAZR MAXX that currently retails for RM1,688. Release date is slated for Q3 but not firm date has been set.

Despite being the budget device of the bunch, it’s good to see that Motorola has not taken any of the stylish elements of the RAZR away from the RAZR V. We’re still firm that the RAZR is the most stylish Android devices in the market right now and the RAZR V looks to follow that trend. In addition, the affordable pricing could possibly make this new RAZR the most desirable in the lineup.

Excited about Windows Phone 8 and what’s to come? As you might already know, the new mobile OS from Microsoft will come with multi-core support, high resolution display and such, so what else is new? A whole bunch actually, LG announced its Siri-like “Quick Voice” that allows for voice control, Microsoft will also have its own Speech Platform that allows you to search for things and listen to ebooks. This feature will arrive to all WP Mango devices so no worries if you’re an existing user.

Windows Phone 8 will also come with a new Start Screen, probably the biggest and most obvious change in terms of visuals. I personally love the new redesign, the current big tiles shows too little information and I don’t think I’m that old to require big buttons, yet. There’ll also be deep Skype integration, offline turn-by-turn navigation maps powered by none other than Nokia, IE10 which smoked Safari and Android browser in the SunSpider Java test, improved camera with panorama and burst shot, ready for enterprise, over the air updates for future WP8 devices, and 18-months support cycle.

LG Malaysia is said to be bringing the LG Optimus L5 into Malaysia in July with the price tag of just RM719. The Optimus L5 is the middle model of the L-Series that’s more designer centric.

The Optimus L5 runs on a single core 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM with 4GB of storage that’s expandable with microSD. Over at the front you’ll get a rather generous 4.0″ TFT LCD display but with HVGA resolution of 480×320. That gives a pixel density of about 144 ppi. You’ll also get a 5.0MP camera at the back which only shoots VGA videos and it is powered by a 1,540mAh battery. For those looking for the latest, it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

For this price tag and features, the LG Optimus L5 is going head on against other entry level ICS devices such as the HTC Desire C, Sony Xperia tipo and Sony Xperia miro. The other models of the L series – Optimus L3 and Optimus L7 was already announced at the price tag of RM499 and RM999 respectively.

Available from Brightstar, the Motorola RAZR MAXX retails for RM1,788 outright. The RAZR MAXX adds a whopping 3,300mAh battery to everything that’s good about the Motorola RAZR – 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced 960×540 resolution (about 256ppi) display with Gorilla Glass. 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. 8MP rear camera with 1080p video and a 1.3MP front camera with 720p video.

The 3,300mAh battery gives the RAZR MAXX 21 hours of talktime and 15 hours of continuous video playback or two and half days of continuous music playback. To accommodate the battery, the RAZR MAXX is slightly thicker at 8.99mm compared to the RAZR’s svelte 7.1mm body.

With the large battery, a decent screen, spectacular call quality and snappy performance wrapped in that sleek RAZR design and sexy Kevlar backplate, the RAZR MAXX has a lot going for it and very little against and if battery performance is a big deal for you, this device is definitely worth a look, there’s really nothing else in the market.

Normally, wireless Internet is something that gamers always tried to avoid due reliability and latency issues. However, it seemed that Yes are quite confident with their quality of Internet services by agreeing to collaborate with local gaming service provider OffGamers for a special set of Yes 4G packages that are targeted for gamers.

Based on the Yes Super Postpaid plans, these packages will be making their debut at the upcoming Yes Techgaming League that is scheduled to take place at Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur this weekend. However, the packages looked quite confusing since they are a lot of details that are very unclear to us especially the numerous types of rebates that are listed under the packages.

While we have already submitted our queries to OffGamers representative for further clarifications, we are able to confirm that new subscribers of Yes Postpaid Packages as well as Yes Prepaid Card customers at the Yes Techgaming Festival might be able to go home with free SteelSeries gaming peripherals through lucky draws at the event.

With the success of the original Galaxy Note still following them well into the second quarter of 2012, Samsung is already preparing a successor to the popular phablet. Thanks to a rumor report out of MK Business News, we may now have an idea what could go into the device.

According to MK Business News, the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be improved in just about every way possible. Not only is the Note II rumored to include a quad-core processor, sturdier build, better battery life and Jelly Bean, it will also deploy a new screen technology known as unbreakable plane, or UBP.

Instead of using glass like with traditional OLED displays, UBP displays use a polymer film allowing for thinner and lighter components. UBP technology has also been called a, “precursor to the flexible display.” So while the Galaxy Note II may not feature a flexible OLED display, it will bring us one step closer.

If the latest rumors are right, you can look for the Galaxy Note II to launch sometime this October, going head-to-head with the Apple iPhone 5. In the meantime, we’ll still be keeping our eyes out for that elusive T-Mobile branded Note spotted in late April.

E3 event just ended last week, and as expected Microsoft provided absolutely no details about the Next-Ge Xbox product line. However, there are some new supposedly leaked details that shed insight to what the company is working on behind-the-scenes. Based on what has been presented as a confidential series of concept art, it looks like Kinect isn't going away.

In fact, it appears to be one of the major points of the Xbox 720. If these leaks are to be believed, the new console will have "Kinect v2" built directly into the console, so there will be no need for an extra peripheral. Among the enhancements referenced are the ability to track four players simultaneously, stronger integration with other devices like the PC and Windows Phone 8, and just all-around more powerful performance.

Another interesting thing mentioned in the leak is a project Microsoft is reportedly working on, called Kinect Glasses, which has hints of Google's Project Glass in it. Few solid details are laid out, but it looks like they'll both enhance your core experience with the Xbox 720, and can be used on-the-go as well. And the biggest piece of information from this alleged document - the console will launch at a nice price point of $299.

Scientists from the University of Texas are on the verge of developing a mobile technology capable to see through walls and other solid objects. The technology combines the capturing of an unused "TERAHERTZ" range in the electromagnetic spectrum with a a new microchip capable of reproducing the data.

Thanks to the direct tapping in the terahertz range the future sensors will be much more simple than similar technology used nowadays, as it won't need the use of several lenses inside a device.

The new chip is based on the popular CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) technology, but when combined with terahertz waves it becomes possible for the sensor to capture images behind solid objects like walls and bodies.

The technology is very powerful as it offers limitless uses in construction, medicine, archaeology, document and money authentication and many more fields. The simplicity of the technology also makes it usable in mobile devices, which adds an interesting privacy concern to the matter.

We have seen a lot of renders of the next generation iPhone before but these are some of the best we have seen so far. a Gizmodo reader made these after looking at some of the leaked images that have come out so far and has done a terrific job with them.

You'll notice things like the vertically stretched display and an aluminum back, along with a new connectivity port that we have seen and heard about in the past. He also took the time to put some fake fingerprints on them to make the renders look even more realistic.

From the first time we saw this mouse, we seriously can’t help from associating the newly announced Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse with Razer Naga, thanks to that massive amount of buttons - all 12 of them! - on the left side of the mouse. Not to forget, both of them are also designed to cater for massively multiplayer online (MMO) gamers.

The Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse is also equipped with 8200 dpi laser sensor, on-the-fly DPI button, on-board memories to store up to three mouse profiles, 1 millisecond USB report rate and almost 2 meter of braided USB cable. On top of all these, Logitech has also included customizable illumination options to those side buttons with more than 16 million possible combinations.

It has been a while since we heard anything about Logitech’s gaming mouse series, so this is rather welcoming news from them and guess what, Logitech Malaysia has confirmed that G600 will be available in Malaysia very soon. No official pricing for Malaysia for the time being but we believe it shouldn’t be that far from its US price tag of RM 255 (USD 79.90).

We recently got a look at Samsung's new Ivy Bridge-enhanced Series 5 laptops, but it turns out that's not the only refresh the line has gotten this month. Samsung's also now rather quietly introduced a pair of new AMD-based models on its website, including an $850 14-inch version with a quad-core A10-4655M APU, and a $700 13.3-inch model with a quad-core A6-4455M (both otherwise known as Trinity processors). You'll also get an AMD Radeon HD 7500G GPU on the 13.3-incher (while the 14 relies on integrated graphics), but their specs remain pretty much in line with their Intel-based counterparts beyond that, including a standard 4GB RAM on both models and 500GB or 750GB hard drives.

Still remember Razer’s gaming laptop, the Razer Blade? Guess what, the gaming laptop will soon be available for gamers outside of United States for the first time ever since it was announced last year. However, before you get all excited about the prospect of owning one and rushed off to the nearest Razer dealers, the laptop will be only be made available in Singapore.

We are not surprised by that though since Razer’s regional headquarters is located over there but what really caught our attention is its price tag of RM 9,929 (SGD 3,999.99). Mind you, the 17-inch Razer Blade Gaming Laptop is still rocking previous generation hardware such as a dual-core 2.80GHz Intel Core i7-2640M CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M GPU but of course, Razer Blade comes with a set of unique features such as the dynamic Switchblade User Interface shortcut keys and a LCD that acts as touchpad as well as a secondary display.

Nevertheless, we just wish that Razer would at least update Blade’s hardware to an Ivy Bridge-based Intel Core CPU and Kepler-based NVIDIA’s GPU as these updates would be able to further justify its RM 9.9k price tag. Meanwhile, if you cannot resist yourself from owning the new Razer Blade Gaming Laptop, do note that it will be available in Singapore starting from tomorrow, June 14 onwards

We’re glad to report that the ultra-cool and super-sexy Kevlar backplate is here to stay. In addition, it looks like Motorola has increased the surface area of the Kevlar backplate to cover the whole back portion of the unreleased device that you see here. The backplate re-design has also moved the camera, which is said to have a 13MP sensor, to the top centre of the backplate instead of the off-centre position in the earlier RAZR.

Unfortunately however, one of the world’s thinnest smartphones will get a bump in thicknes. Fortunately however the increase in thickness is very likely due to the inclusion of a massive 3,300mAh battery that’s expected to give the new RAZR amazing battery performance.

Speaking of performance, DROID RAZR HD is said to run on Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4. Yes, you’ve read that right, Motorola’s new flagship device is rumoured to run a dual-core chip, although we would like something with a bit more firepower (say, quad-core with 1GB RAM or more) to make it into the end-product. We would be surprised if it was something else.

The display on the new RAZR has been described as “amazing” by those who know about the device and that the phone also has on-screen navigation keys which means it should be running ICS.

The Android-based RAZR put Motorola back on the map when it was unveiled last year. Even now, we still think that the RAZR is one of the most stylish Android smartphones you can get with performance to spare. Its built quality is top-notch too. Pity we can’t say the same about the camera though. Even so, the RAZR gets better and better with each new firmware update.

Now that there’s a new RAZR looming in the horizon with the promise of a better camera and a stellar battery performance all wrapped in roughly the same sexy shell as before, there’s really not much going against this upcoming Motorola. Question is will it come to Malaysia.
