Since its introduction in 2006 (2007 in Malaysia), the Nike+ technology has helped a significant number of runners track their running statistics interactively over the years but the technology has now evolved to cater other forms of sports and active lifestyles. If a month ago we already checked out the new Nike+ FuelBand that aims to make life as a sport, Nike has recently unveiled two more new Nike+ products that are designed for basketball and physical conditioning.
In essence, the Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training is just like the original Nike+ for running which uses in-shoe sensor to capture one’s statistics and relay those data to smartphone as well as Nike+ website for user to analyze and safekeeping. However, rather than using the existing Nike+ stride sensor, the new Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training use much more comprehensive new sensor that is built directly into their respective shoes.
In term of metrics collection, the Nike+ Basketball – through the new 2012 Nike Hyperdunk+ basketball shoe – measures one’s quickness and height of jump which Nike choose to use to measure one’s game. As for Nike+ Training, the sensors in Nike LunarTR1+ for women and Nike Lunar Hyperworkout+ for men capture workout repetition, duration and calories. Both Nike+ systems also capture Nike’s own metric called NikeFuel.
In addition to the statistics, each Nike+ system also feature quite a number of built-in social functions such as Facebook/Twitter sharing and leaderboards. Furthermore, Nike+ Training also comes with drill packs, challenges and daily workouts featuring some of world’s best athletes such as boxer Manny Pacquaio, the goalkeeper of U.S National Women’s Team Hope Solo, tennis player Rafael Nadal and sprinter Allyson Felix.
The new Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training line of products are scheduled for release in phases globally starting from June 2012 onwards. Unfortunately, we don’t have any pricing and availability information for Malaysia right now. For the meantime, head on to www.nikeplus.com to learn more about Nike+ Basketball and Nike+ Training as well as other members of Nike+ product family.
