Don’t fancy the latest and greatest smartphones out there because your wallet does not allow you to? No worries, the LG Optimus L7 will be hitting the shelves early next month and we’ve just received our review unit of LG’s mid-range Android device running on Android ICS operating system, powered by a 1Ghz single-core processor and the best part of all, only retails at RM999.

Here’s my first impression of the L7: “is this really a sub-RM1,000 phone because it sure as hell does not feel like one”. With a large display – large compared to devices at the same price point – that measures at 4.3” (Samsung Galaxy W and HTC One V both measures at 3.7”), and a pretty solid build despite its plastic back casing, the L7 actually feels like one of those higher end phones. Another plus point is that it runs on the latest version of Android – Android 4.0.3.
I find the design similar to the LG Prada Phone 3.0 we reviewed a few weeks back – it’s pretty squarish, also sports a 4.3” display, has a patterned plastic back casing, and is made out of similar material. However unlike the Prada Phone 3.0 which comes with a USB slot on the top of the device, LG shifted down to the bottom so the top is neatly adorned with a power button and a 3.5mm audio jack. Towards the left side of the device would be a power button and the back is designed with a camera as well as the speakers.
