Excited about the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system because it’s so rare – only 1% of the Android market share – and it’s still relatively new? Well, you might be more interested in the next release – the Android 5.0 Jelly Bean because rumors have it that Google will be unveiling it in the second quarter of this year. Great, so far the only official ICS device I’ve gotten my hands on is the Galaxy Nexus, a whole load of Android devices haven’t even gotten the update yet and now there’s going to be a Jellybean OS?

According to DiGiTimes who quoted Taiwan-based supply chain makers, they say that because the expectation for ICS has fallen short of its original expectations and the fact that Microsoft is going to launch Windows 8 in the third quarter of this year, Google will most likely be launching Jelly Bean in the second quarter of 2012.

“Android 5.0 will be further optimized for tablet PCs, while Google will also integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer.”
